The Work Down Under

All hell is breaking loose in Australia. Some crazy lib went off about Opus Dei in the pages of the Sydney Morning Herald with a seemingly inaccurate, shady and irate hatchet-job, and now they're talking lawsuits, the original article has been expunged from the website and all my beloved Aussies are standing around and trying to figure out what the hell happened.

Yes, I said hell twice in a graf. So sue me.

The Oz Beat is really heating up.... Between spats in the academy, Genghis Pell's purchase of a brand spanking new galero (for processional purposes, I'm told), shifting seminarians, and now Opus Dei and a libel fight, American theo-cons are looking downright dull in comparison.

Father Ephraem, a Sydney Dominican who's quickly building the Best Church Blog of the Southern Hemisphere, has the goods. And a personality to boot.... Check this Blogger question and his answer:
Q: What would you wear for camouflage if you were hiding in a gingerbread house?
A: Rochet and Cope
You can't buy words like that. Check him out. And he's got the exquisite taste to love both Ben Harper and the Lord Jeff Buckley.

Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oi. Oi. Oi.

Caro Rocco,

HE George Cardinal Pell was given the gift of a galero - not purchased by him as you suggest. You should check the Sydney Morning Herald site tomorrow as well as Crikey for more on the Opus Dei controversy. Thanks for the bouquet, but you didn't mention my Cherry Pie recipe.
