The King Speaks

To a packed, well-secured house at CUA Law this afternoon, the Hashemite King of Jordan spoke of peace, faith, praised the Catholic commitment to dialogue and denounced the drumbeat of a "clash of civilizations" mentality. Very savvy, succinct and polished.

It's a good listen -- and McCarrick's on the dais, to boot, leading prayers to "Allah, the Merciful and Compassionate." I kid you not.

Check it out.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but the King of Jordan is pretty low on the totem pole over there. He presides over a kingdom that is not very economically viable and that is chockful of poverty-stricken Jordanians and refugees from Israel. His regime survives through good luck and a lot of aid from the United States.

If you want to have a party with an Arab king hooks up with the hierarchy in the US, have it when Abdullah of the kingdom to the south comes to town.
