An indication of [Harriet Miers'] stance on gay rights comes from this questionaire from the Lesbian/Gay Political Coalition of Dallas Miers filled out while running for the Dallas City Council in 1989. In it, she supported full civil rights for gays and lesbians and backed AIDS education programs for the city of Dallas.Hmmmmm... I can hear Rightward screams of "Souter!"....

This will drive certain conservative activists batty. However, if you read the fine print, she opposed non-discrimination statutes for gays, opposed repeal of sodomy laws, etc. etc. I think what she meant by "civil rights" was that gays had the same civil rights under the Constitution as heterosexuals, i.e. Free Speech Clause, Unreasonable Search and Seizure, etc. I doubt seriously that she w
The anti-Miers hysteria is really grating. This is the social conservative - as opposed to federalist conservative - dream nomination, but no one seems to be the wiser.
