Visiting the Janiculum

As the Visitation of Seminaries drew nearer these last few weeks, it was an unsettled topic of discussion whether the process would include the most prestigious American house of formation, the Pontifical North American College in Rome -- the only national seminary for Latin-rite diocesan candidates from the United States.

Of course, the NAC exists under a special arrangement, chartered by the Holy See and entrusted to the American bishops who are, in turn, represented by a board of governors including one prelate from each of the 14 regions into which the USCCB is divided.

The NACers were told yesterday that a Visitation of the house was scheduled for mid-March. Further details to come; it would be safe to expect a Team comprised of American curialists on-the-ground in Rome....
