Translating Benedict

Per usual, Reggie Foster is so good he can't be serialised....

The Vatican's chief Latinist, who translated Deus caritas est into its normative language, speaks of the process of taking the Italian rendering of the original German text into Latin -- and translates about a hundred different terms in the process -- on a recent segment of The Latin Lover, his weekly appearance on Vatican Radio.

Even when what he says isn't newsworthy, Foster's always a brilliant listen. Luckily -- and how do you say "luckily" in Latin? -- this clip's got the best of both.
