Happy Birthday, Dear Ben....

Yesterday marked the 300th Birthday of the Greatest Philadelphian of All Time: Benjamin Franklin.... Founder of the University of Pennsylvania, Signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States, Governor of Pennsylvania, Founder of the First American Hospital, Postmaster, Writer, Publisher, Inventor, Diplomat, etc. etc.

And yet, for all of that, my favorite quote of Franklin's speaks to the simple pleasures in life -- one that particularly touches your humble narrator's Amstel and Hoegaarden-loving heart:

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

And, judging by this shot, it seems the Bavarian Pope agrees....
