Conservative Credo Confirmed -- Christianity Is: Beating Up the Opposition

Just the other day, one of your not-so-friendly neighborhood agenda queens -- you know them, you love them, they hate everybody -- was grousing about why all these liberals keep believing that angry faith-based conservatives will eventually return to their base state and start beating people up, as if such concept were some kind of cooked-up bigoted, libbbrrrlllll fiction.

Well, just in case anyone happened to drink the Kool-Aid on that one, here's your passport back to reality:
A college professor whose planned course on creationism and intelligent design was canceled after he derided Christian conservatives said he was beaten by two men along a rural road early Monday.

University of Kansas religious studies professor Paul Mirecki said the men referred to the class when they beat him on the head, shoulders and back with their fists, and possibly a metal object, the Lawrence Journal-World reported.

This just reeks of Taliban. And St. Blog's comboxes.

Mirecki planned to offer a spring course called "Special Topics in Religion: Intelligent Design, Creationism and other Religious Mythologies" after the Kansas Board of Education decided to include more criticism of evolution in science standards for elementary and secondary students.

Mirecki then asked to have the class canceled after e.mails mocking Evangelicals were made public.

While words are one thing, fists are another -- a step that crosses the line not just of Christianity, but of civility and self-control. But don't say you're surprised. As we've seen in other parts of the world, when you create mass religious zealotry and indoctrinate the adherents to excess about their duty to be warriors, all in the name of secular political ends, a handful will take it too far. And that handful are still way too many.

I'm just wondering if that whole bit about "turn the other cheek" been excised from the Pat Robertson version of the King James....
