From the Ashes....

I just placed a call out to The Desert, whatwith all this hubbub over the arrest of Msgr. Dale Fushek, former vicar-general of Phoenix and founder of the uber-popular LifeTeen youth engagement program earlier today on counts of assault, indecent exposure and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. I'm told that Fushek's grief-stricken parishioners are holding vigil tonight at his Mesa parish.

In other news, we've got further proof that no neocon bishop ever increased demand for a Hans Kung lecture by saying nothing. Bishop Thomas Olmsted's refusal to participate in the Arizona leg of Kung's American tour, publicized on the front page of The Arizona Republic on the morning of the recent papal dinner guest's talk in Phoenix, actually increased curiosity and doubled the pre-article turnout -- in excess of 1,100 people showed up (and paid), filling the room to capacity.

So, there.
