The Religion Party

Our good friend Kevin Eckstrom at Religion News Service reports on a new poll gauging the perception of the political parties vis-a-vis religion.
Democrats are losing their effort to convince voters that they take religion seriously, especially among independent voters who say the party has become less "friendly" to religion, according to a new Pew poll.

At the same time, voters seem concerned that religious conservatives among Republicans, and secularists among Democrats, have too much sway in the two parties. Independents seem more concerned about religious conservatives in the GOP than secularists among Democrats.
I don't know how many Daily Show viewers we've got among us, but I was watching the other night as Stewart & Co. ran a clip of Pat Robertson, eyes closed, hand in the air, saying to the Lord-impersonator, "Lord, we know you make miracles happen. Take control, Jesus. Give us more vacancies on the Supreme Court."

Why?

The last time I saw something as scary, it was "Living with Michael Jackson." But, as he tends to do, Robertson might even have topped the Gloved One.

I actually remember when that story first aired. Pat Robertson did indeed pray for vacancies on the Supreme Court. I don't believe he specified how those vacancies should happen, but since appointments are for life, you can make your own connections there.
