A New American Cardinal?

(PHOTO: AP)

(From left) Grand Inquisitor? Check. Pharaoh? Check. But who's that third guy?

Did a SNAP protestor crash the procession for the opening liturgy in Chicago? Nope. It's Chilean Cardinal Francisco Javier Errazuriz Ossa, the 71 year-old archbishop of Santiago. (Like Rigali, he did the reverse commute -- he was a Roman official, secretary of Religious, in a prior incarnation.)

Errazuriz -- a papabile among several insiders at the last conclave -- is in Chicago as president of the CELAM, the mega-conference of Latin American bishops. A member of the Schoenstatt Fathers -- he speaks fluent German -- Errazuriz is a "pope's man" in B16's Vatican.

And Rigali's wearing his cross over his chasuble. He never does that. I guess he's just doing his best to "fit in."
