...And Now, Chaos

In the wake of this morning's NYTimes piece on the Murphy case -- and as protestors from SNAP made Italian headlines for leafleting in St Peter's Square -- this afternoon's edition of the Vatican daily L'Osservatore Romano has published a commentary (titled "Nobody shelved anything") on the accusation of neglect in handling the matter by the future Benedict XVI... full translation to come.

Meanwhile, in response to the top editorial in today's Grey Lady -- an extension on the Wisconsin-Vatican story -- the New York chancery has demanded a correction of the piece's statement that the city's retired archbishop, Cardinal Edward Egan, had been criticized for "management of rogue priests" by the US bishops' lay review board on abuse.

And so it goes.
