Under standard Vatican protocol, photography or video of the Pope eating anything that isn't the Eucharist is usually understood to be a "niente foto" moment...

...and, well, 'nuff said.

The dates shared by B16 and President Shimon Peres at the latter's residence earlier today form part of Judaism's traditional "seven species" -- the others: wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives.

The foods were given to the pontiff by a group of children as a sign of welcome.
