Upward Along the Mountain

Hard as it is to believe, gang, but just like that, we're already a quarter way through Lent.

Everybody getting through OK?

For everything else going on, hopefully no one minds too much that the Biggest Story of these days is no scandal, controversy, nor big doing elsewhere, but that which is going on in the innermost depths of the soul: the shared journey through the desert of these 40 Days toward the pangs of Holy Week and the new life of Easter.

Regardless of how many times we've traveled through them, these days should always teach us much and make us better... unless we're already perfect, see, we've each got some needed work to do; sometimes ours remains the same year after year, sometimes it doesn't -- and anyone who thinks they've got it down is only kidding themselves. Whatever the case, though, what matters isn't the achievement, but the effort... not so much the accomplishment as the courage to try, and especially to try again, and again, and again.

Led by the Mothership's Lenten portal, resources abound -- and, on a lighter note, reports from the Midwest indicate that the traditional fish-fries are, indeed, "recession-proof" -- but lest anyone's in search of something that jumps off the page a bit more than most, it might be worthwhile to revisit one of this season's best-loved devotions, the Stations of the Cross, as it was movingly fleshed out in the streets of Sydney at last summer's World Youth Day.
