Evacuation Day in Boston

Well, the reviews are coming in fast and furious on the appointment of Richard Lennon as bishop of Cleveland.

A few minutes ago, at the top of his morning talk show on WTKK 96.9 in Boston, the columnist Mike Barnacle broke into the news summary with a farewell rant to Lennon, the contents of which were related by an amazed op on the ground.

As soon as the news announcer uttered the bishop's name, Barnacle is said to have interrupted, saying: "Get out -- just get out. Don't let the door hit you on your way out. He was the hatchet-man in charge of doing in all the priests who signed the letter asking Law to resign. Good luck in Cleveland, just get out. Get out."

No hard feelings there, eh?

Early word is that Cardinal O'Malley will wield the axe at his chancery quickly on the heels of this morning's appointment, and that the installation in Cleveland will take place on May 15.

As always, stay tuned.
