Phoenix Communion Call: Another Scalp Scored for "Orthodoxy"

A letter to the Arizona Republic was not happy at all about Phoenix Bishop Thomas Olmsted's recent decision to bar a 10 year-old autistic boy from the Eucharist:
[I]n addition to using the Holy Eucharist as a weapon against politicians who are opposed to criminalizing abortion, we are using it to punish the disabled.

It seems that we have forgotten that Jesus touched the leper; he did not turn him away.

All of our actions should reflect our father's everlasting love; unfortunately, his love is not evident in my church's efforts to meet this child's needs.
Admittedly, the decision doesn't necessarily reek of "Let the children come to me," no?
