GC35: January, 2008

*BREAKING*

Father-General has gotten his wish.

It was announced today from the Jesuit Curia that the 35th General Congregation of the Society of Jesus will commence on 5 January 2008 in Rome. The work of the Preparatory Commissions will begin in short order.

ZENIT reports that, "after having obtained the consent of His Holiness Benedict XVI," Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, who has served as head of the Jesuits since 1983, announced that GC35 will be a Congregation of Election, proving the weeks of speculation correct that he will leave the helm of the church's largest religious community at that time.
