Those Damn Indiana Liberals
To the shock of San Franciscans, the "den of iniquity" (as the Tridentine people call it, before consulting Babel Fish) came in an improbable ninth among America's most liberal cities. (It seems St. Blog's people weren't surveyed.) According to the Bay Area Center for Voting Research, heresiarchs dominate in Detroit, and Newark, and Gary, Indiana, more than they do in San Francisco.
It's a fascinating list of America's 25 most liberal and conservative cities. Definitely worth a look and a discussion.

I'll omit the obvious question about the correlation between iniquity and "liberalism," but surely some comment is in order about the lack of correlation between the place on the spectrum of an area and its local Catholic community -- Boston being traditionally the classical example.
O'grady is on to it...
As a long time San Franciscan, when told how nice it must be to live in such a Catholic liberal city, I respond that the Catholics are the conservative fringe of population!
